Realistic portraits aren’t for everyone… myself included. They’re difficult, tedious, & often lack the fun & creativity we all crave when painting. To be honest, I had absolutely no interest in them for a long time. They just didn’t fit the style I typically loved to create.

 

But that all changed when I found the course from Yvette St. Amant who teaches how to paint whimsical abstract portraits. She uses acrylic paints in her work and I really waned to challenge myself and wanted to paint digitally. I have to say I was really happy with the outcome.

My first love was always watercolor, but I like to try different mediums and lately I really took the interest into digital drawing using my iPad Pro. Procreate is the perfect app for exploring the possibilities to create stunning digital art and achieve the look of real watercolor, acrylic, oil, pencil or any other medium. I am just amazed how far the technology has come and became accessible to everyone. You don’t need to be an expert to learn how to use Procreate and with time when you get familiar with this amazing drawing app, you can really take advantage of the app and use your creative flow with the amazing brushes, there are available or you can even make them yourself and suit you needs.
